NO LONGER A HUMAN BEING

" we have been made horrifying monsters, we have been made victims of their cruel ideas "
"the heartrate monitor's soft beeps slowly coaxed the individual back to reality, one they didn't want to return to." it had been less than a week since the labratory revealed their plans to the public, and they already had investors backing them up with the funds they needed. people were interested in their ideas, appearantally. they didn't take a moment to think about what was really going on. who could blame them, though, how would they even know about the things that went on behind the lab's heavy, windowless doors. what did go on was simply horrifying. starvation, cruelty, death, these three words were all to familar for every test subject behind the lab's walls, many more joining them in the dark vocabulary of their lives here. they weren't allowed to leave their rooms unless they were called down for a test, they weren't allowed to speak unless spoken to, they weren't allowed to fight back if beaten, they weren't allowed to see the sun, they weren't allowed to do...anything really. their day consisted of testing, testing, and even more testing. add in a few minutes of cruel treatment, a few minutes of 'socialization', and possibly a few minutes of group 'activities'. the tests were cruel and always painful, getting hit by enough force to kill the average human being, getting shocked with enough volts to fry the average human being, etc. however, the absolute worse of all of these tests were the ones where they were edited. some would choose death over being edited, and their fellow subjects woulden't blame them. they would be injected with serums, or have multiple parts added onto them, or loose their human body entirely. some subjets have had enough of this, and even attempted to escape this nightmare. there have been no sucessful attempts recorded, the subjects who tried usually end up dead the next day, or broken in the mind. maybe...the next batch will have some more luck.

how can we make a better human being? this exact question has been asked by many but carried out by few. one of those few was the boss of a certain laboratory, their name being _____. _____, knowing that they were capable of carrying out such a task, decided to try it out. they informed their team of scientists about their idea, the scientists immediately began to work on making it happen. some worked on modifications, while others began 'collecting' worthy test subjects. many were adopted from agencies, but some were even taken off of the streets, never seen again. the tests began months after their arrival. subjects were either edited physically or mentally, each variation equally as painful. some were fused with animal dna, others have mechanical limbs, and others even have psychic powers. the mutations vary. none of the subjects are fond with their treatment and are plotting to escape this horrible place. the only issue, they don't know how. however, there is word that a tour is coming up, which is the perfect opportunity for them to snag a map. how they will get one, they need to plan.

just a few seconds ago she was standing by herself, but when she woke up, she was aboard a ship heading towards an unknown destination. Her vision was shrouded in an everlasting darkness when suddenly, light. She could feel her gem begin to levitate as her body began to reform, a simple white silhouette surrounded by a dark greyish-blue aura, which faded into her original form. long, crisp white hair cascaded down her back in slight curls, accentuating her dark, navy skin well. gracefully floating to down, the gem stood straight up when her feet met the floor, her silver-and-white dress fanning around her form before falling back into place. the gem took a few moments to process where she was, and after a few moments, realization hit her like a blow to the stomach. she was in...a cell?

dread began to settle in as the gem began to pace around in tight circles, her mind racing, trying to grasp any memory in reach that could justify her capture. after a few long moments of almost robotic pacing and rambling, a long moan escaped the gems lips as she slid down a wall and onto the floor, her head hidden by a curtain of white hair. the dread that hung heavy in the air was soon replaced by tension as the gem remembered something, a dreadful detail that could cost the life of her and everyone on board. her 'power', more like a curse, would go haywire if she panicked. it was too late to try and calm down, her mind was already reeling with an endless torrent of hopeless thoughts, feeding the flame of panic that began to grow inside of her.

it would only be a matter of time before something horrible happened. arms wrapped tightly around her legs the gem curled into a protective ball, silently hoping that nothing would happen this time. there have been many accounts of her powers failing, but there have been many more accounts of her powers succeeding. another long moan escaped her lips as she slumped over, eventually falling over onto the floor and laying there. the next few moments were dreadful for her, every single movement the ship made would make her curl up again like it would crash at any moment, but nothing happened. eventually, she began to believe nothing would happen. the gem loosened up a bit.

she was wrong. meanwhile in the engine rooms, the engines suddenly shut down and refused to start working again, leaving the ship without power.

located in a crisp white room was a small figure, seated upon the floor with their back against the wall behind them, their eyes squinted. their ghostly white complexion almost blended in with the wall, along with their crisp white hair. their face was emotionless, but their eyes betrayed this stoic look, they glinted with annoyance and a hint of aggression. another one of these 'group activities' again, this one was a bit more social than the others. the subjects would be left in the same room for a few hours. the female tsked and rolled her eyes, blowing a puff of air from out of her mouth. she was not excited for this.

//sorry for this short post, i'll become better later on

//signups, i'll move it to the first post in a second

the subject then stood up from the ground with a quiet grumble and cracked a few bones in her neck, and lifting up her right foot, she began to levitate. leaning back on the wall the subject began to stare at one subject, who was curled up in a ball. she quirked a single brow in confusion, and deciding to ignore them, she stared at the new arrival. they were pressed up against the door, and looked rather surprised. "leaning up against the door isn't such a good idea," she stated dryly, her tone void of all emotion. "more subjects are bound to come in, and the guards wouldn't be pleased with a subject falling on them," she then stared at the wall in front of her, falling silent once again. what was the purpose of this activity, she had no idea. all she did know was that it was annoying. very annoying. "why are we even here..." she muttered crossly, growling once again.

a low, long groan escaped alex's lips as she slumped back down to the floor, the brightness of the room had started to give her a headache, and the social interaction wasn't helping her either. grumbling something under her breath the subject rested her chin on her knees and adjusted her hair, forming a curtain that covered her eyes. all she wanted to do was hide in her cell until she formulated an escape plan, then leave this wretched place forever. with a soft sigh, she began to drum her fingers on the cold metal floor, bored out of her mind. she'd glance at every subject once in awhile, surveying their body language. the dragon-looking one was getting angry, she could tell. alex grumbled quietly and set her gaze upon the subject across from her, this one wearing a black cloak.

"i thought they didn't allow any other clothing here..." she muttered quietly.

alex visibly cringed at the dreadful screeching noise and snarled at the subject, covering her sensitive ears with her hands. snapping her jaws aggressively she crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at the subject one last time before looking at the new subject, studying their appearance. the scientists got creative with this one. grumbling, she suddenly dissapeared, just like that. she did this whenever she felt uncomfortable, it made her feel safer.

//when your lack of sleep interferes with your posting skills

her footsteps could be heard as alex began to pace around the room, the quiet 'thuds' echoing off of the walls as she walked in tight circles, the claws of her feet clicking on the floor. deciding to approach the skull-faced subject she walked towards them, pausing a few feet away. she stared at them for a few moments in silence, studying them. the scientists got creative with this one, too. "how do you function?" she asked quietly, tilting her head to one side, even though she knew she was invisible. floating a few centimeters above the ground she crossed her arms over her chest, cracking her neck once again, the noise echoing off the walls.

alex stared at the restraints for a few moments, trying to figure out their purpose. her eyebrows knit together as she studied them, and opening her mouth to ask a question, no words came out. she was about to ask how to remove them, but if the scientists heard her, the consequences wouldn't be very pleasant. were they ever pleasant? if there were pleasant consequences, she never experienced any. whatever. the consequences for what she was about to do weren't all too swell either. stalking towards one of the four cameras in each corner she floated up so she could reach it, and grasping either side of it she lifted it up slowly, revealing a mess of wires behind it. reaching a hand into the tangle of wires she searched through the various colors and selected one, cutting it with her clawed forefinger. that wire fed into the mics located various places around the room. the scientists could no longer hear them, so they could talk anything in the few moments they had left. gently moving the camera back down she lowered herself to the ground, walked back over to the subject she was previously talking too, and asked the question.

"do you know how to get them off?"

watching the subject closely alex reappeared, nodded, then disappeared once again. squeezing all four of the clasps the girl pulled, trying to be as gentle as possible. when the restraints came off she placed them onto the floor, making no noise as she did so, and reappeared once again. sitting cross-legged half-a-meter in front of him she tilted her head to the side, studying them again. "now that you can talk, how do you function?" she asked again.

"after you answer my question, i have an announcement for all of you since the scientists can't hear us anymore," she glanced at the tree in the back room, then back at the subject.

alex remained motionless for a few moments before nodding, her throat rumbling with a quiet growl as she stood up and made her way across the room, leaning up against the wall behind her. "some of the biggest investors for this lab are coming here in a few days," she began, "the perfect opportunity to get the hell out of here." closing her eyes alex muttered something under her breath before continuing. "a few subjects are going to get chosen to display our abilities to them, like an attraction of sorts," opening her eyes she gazed at the scientists, "that means the amount of guards patrolling the hallways will be decreased greatly, the majority of them will be in the room to ensure the safety of the investors," she narrowed her eyes and bared her teeth in an aggressive fashion, "so sneaking out wouldn't be as hard, for me at least," she then gazed at the other subjects, "but even though i don't know you, i wouldn't leave you behind," she smirked, "probably."

"there are many ways of getting out of here, i've watched the previous batch of subjects get far enough to see the outside, but sadly they were captured soon after," alex began to replay the scene in her head, back when the cells were transparent, "getting captured would mean certain death, so that is not an option," she shuddered a bit, the screams still haunted her, "the main goal is to get the guards scattered so it would be easier to take them out, which eliminates most of the problem," she made a walking motion with her fingers, "then getting away should be a breeze, with the rest of the guards protecting the investors and all," she paused for a few moments.

"then there's the fence, not an issue for those who can probably fly," she gestured to those in the room who had wings, "but an issue to those who cannot fly." alex tried to remember where the main power room was, her eyebrows knitting together, displaying her frustration, "there should be a power room somewhere, but i can't remember, whatever," she shrugged, "i'll snag a map from one of the investors."

"and for those of you who are part of the attraction, without power feeding into the facility, you can open the doors manually," she finished, cracking her neck. "and if this plan doesn't work, there is always my other plan, but i won't elaborate on that."

glancing around the room, alex disappeared again.

    "any questions?"

"if we're followed, scatter them," alex hummed, "taking them out isn't too hard, their armor looks tough, but it is actually rather easy to tear," all that appeared was her hand, which swiped at the air horizontally, like she was tearing into someone's flesh. "aim for the stomach," she then chuckled, "trust me, i've killed a few."

"where would we go," she echoed, tapping her visible hand to her invisible chin. "the other subjects were talking about this issue," she hummed quietly, deep in thought, "the world is a big place, which is a good and bad thing," she grumbled, her tone indicating she was frustrated. "this would be easy if we looked human, but the only one who looks human, well a healty human is you," she pointed at ember.

"i heard of an abandoned city near the labs, the only people who ever visit there are thrill-seekers, and they aren't that hard to deal with," she huffed quietly, "normal life isn't attainable, not yet anyways," she hummed, "but that's another story, anyway, any more questions?"

"if they find you, then," alex stalked over to the subject while she was invisible, began to levitate so she couldn't be heard, and pounced upon her back, "their mistake." she then floated back down to the ground and began to pace in a tight circle, both of her hands clasped behind her head to support it, her eyes closed and face blank. "if your caught, it's you or them," she hummed, "what difference would one dead human make?" she questioned, looking at the dragon-like subject. "you can't get caught if there aren't any witnesses," she hummed, opening one eye to stare at her for a few moments, before closing it. alex then stared off at the scientists, frowning. "they do know they can't hear us, right?" she snickered, approaching the glass pane, levitating so she could reach it. tapping it gently, she stared at the scientists with a blank expression, quirking a brow.

alex stared directly at the scientist that was in front of her, narrowing her eyes and tilting her head to the side, her teeth bared slightly. pressing her hands and feet up to the glass she gestured to one of the cameras, an annoyed scowl upon her face. "you can't hear me," she mouthed, smirking. she then blended in with her surroundings and began to crawl across the glass pane, her handprints visible while she was not. while she was here, she was going to have fun with these scientists, trying to combat her boredom. her eyes became visible, then her mouth, which was a toothy grin. she then became invisible again, crawling around the pane. "these scientists sure are oblivious," she snickered quietly, tapping on the glass with an invisible forefinger.

"when they notice the sound is off they'll take us back to out cells, it was nice discussing escape with you all," she hummed.

"not sure you'll like it when every guard in the facility is chasing you," alex hummed and crawled over to the subject's tail, grabbed it with one hand, moving it away from the glass. "ember is right, that noise isn't very pleasant," she pointed out, her upper body becoming visible, "and i'm alex, short for alexandra." she chuckled, letting go of the appendage. becoming completely visible she dropped to the floor instead of floating, landing with a soft 'thud'. gazing around the room alex stalked to the other side and stood in front of the door, staring at it. "where does this thing open," she muttered, tracing a clawed forefinger across its surface, searching for any crevices.
